A day-long hands-on workshop at Glengall Wharf Garden building communal seating to create spaces of belonging

The workshop centres the importance of creating spaces of belonging be introducing participants to basic carpentry skills through the construction of lightweight modular seating alongside university students and garden volunteers.
The seats will be donated to the garden for future use, supporting ongoing workshops and community engagement. Using recycled and surplus materials donated by Berkeley Homes, the project offers simple skills that can be reproduced beyond the workshop. Lunch and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The event is part of a full day of festival activities at Glengall Wharf Garden, exploring growing, farming and building as living forms of knowledge, and ways of belonging in the city.

Glengall Wharf Garden includes both flat paved areas and more uneven garden surfaces. Some parts of the site are step-free and accessible via paved paths, while other areas have woodchip ground, which may be uneven, soft, or more difficult to navigate for wheelchair users, people using mobility aids, or anyone with limited mobility. The Tour, Forest Garden and Hen workshops are likely to take place mainly in the woodchipped areas of the garden. Where possible, we will make use of the more accessible paved areas for gathering, introductions, and parts of the activity. If you have specific access needs, please contact us in advance and we will do our best to discuss possible adjustments and help you decide whether the event will be suitable for you.
