UK high streets are struggling. We want to ask participants: is the necessary footfall best supported through prioritising shopping, leisure and workspace or isn’t the only way to generate footfall by making high streets THE desirable place to live? In areas that are intrinsically busy how do we ensure we enable those living there to feel a sense of belonging and community?
We want to explore barriers preventing high street living from becoming more widespread in the UK. Through retrofit-led strategies, we believe high streets can evolve into mixed-use neighbourhoods that embed housing within existing fabric and foster resilient communities.
