This design workshop investigates the spatial, material, and political relationship between displacement, shelter, and belonging. Rather than treating shelter as a purely technical response to emergency, the workshop frames it as a cultural and civic construct—one that mediates identity, memory, temporality, and rights.

Students will examine displacement across multiple scales: forced migration, internal relocation, urban renewal, climate displacement, and post-conflict reconstruction. Through case studies and short readings, we will interrogate the distinction between temporary shelter and permanent dwelling, asking when provisional architectures become long-term environments and how design shapes the possibility of belonging.
