Dubbed “a tonic for the nation”, the Festival of Britain brought people together in 1951 with a message of hope, creativity, and renewal after the hardships of war. Hosted mainly in South Bank, the Festival reimagined this riverside as a place for culture, ideas, and shared experiences - helping spark the transformation of the area into the thriving neighbourhood we know today.
This exhibition explores how that moment shaped South Bank into a place where people continue to gather, connect, work, live and belong.
