Led by two early-career researchers, this walking tour explores how belonging is shaped, erased and reimagined in the city. Beginning on Chiltern Street, participants uncover stories of philanthropy, poverty, worship, education and redevelopment, asking who has historically been included and excluded from Marylebone’s urban narrative. The walk then follows the hidden course of the River Tyburn, a submerged waterway that once structured settlement but now flows unseen beneath the streets. Through archival research, mapping and critical heritage theory, the tour reflects on whether belonging is rooted in visibility, or imagination, and how forgotten infrastructures continue to shape collective identity today.

This is an outdoor walking tour taking place on public pavements and streets. The route is step-free throughout, with dropped kerbs at crossings, but surfaces may be uneven in places due to historic paving. The tour moves at a gentle pace with regular stopping points.
There is no dedicated seating along the route; participants are welcome to bring portable stools if required. Public toilets are not provided as part of the event, though facilities are available at nearby cafés.
The meeting point is fully step-free. Blue Badge parking is limited in the area and subject to Westminster City Council regulations. Assistance dogs are welcome.
