Can anywhere in Britain have changed so much as Wandsworth town centre!
Unrecognisable from an aerial 1960s photograph, it is much-maligned for its notorious one-way system, ‘architectural disasters’ and ongoing high-rise development. Long-time resident Geoff's informative and entertaining two hour orbital walk shines a light on a truly fascinating area. Its connection to the River Wandle and extraordinary industrial and civic history seem to rise above the madness and everything its had thrown at it, making it somewhere that is so worthy of a visit.
The walk has a heritage focus but with a clear eye on ‘today’ and how this space might feel in the future. Not just local residents but anyone with an interest in the changing face of London should come along. Understanding an environment, its history and what’s happening to it is key to belonging.
