This guided walk through Abney Park Cemetery offers stories of place, people and ecology to reflect on how a shared sense of belonging can emerge through the spaces we design and care for together. Conceived in 1840 as a radical, non‑denominational cemetery and public arboretum, Abney Park was built as an inclusive civic landscape, shaped by ideas of social justice, education and shared access. As we walk among ancestral trees and layered burial grounds, participants will learn about the Park’s social histories, uncovered by the community‑led group Abney Unearthed, and how collective stewardship has sustained this much‑loved green haven.
