Cody Dock’s Summer Open Day brings the site to life with live performance, workshops, exhibitions, show gardens, walks and talks—and its famous Rolling Bridge. The day also marks the unveiling of The Boat House, London’s newest exhibition and museum space, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. At its heart sits Frederick Kitchen, the last boat built by Thames Ironworks, painstakingly restored over three years using traditional methods.

Cody Dock stands as a powerful example of what thousands of volunteers can achieve together - designing and building a place rooted in community pride and shared ownership.

Saturday 20 June

The 20th of June will see the unveiling of 'The Boat House', our new exhibition and museum space.

The space will display a quarterly rotating exhibition, featuring material from GDP’s own growing
collection and the many private and publicly owned collections based in and around
Newham that are currently not on display and celebrate the pivotal role that the tidal
Lea River has played in shaping the neighbourhood over the ages.

The roof of this building is particularly unique, featuring the last boat to be produced by Thames Ironworks. A team of experts and volunteers have spent the last three years restoring it to it's former glory, using traditional boat building methods. We will be turning the boat upside down, suspended by glass panels, facing out towards the River Lea.
