Sacred Heart High School occupies a historic site on Hammersmith Road, blocked from view by a long wall. The site is opened regularly to the public, allowing others to wonder at this hidden Grade II* gem. The talk by Alex Dijkhuis explains how the discovery of a clandestine convent, an armed raid and rare artefact fuelled a restoration drive, making us all feel part of something very special. One aspect of this story relating to our chapel, has recently been reported in the national press and shortlisted for a BBC Radio programme. We hope it will surprise and delight you.

We are less an a minute from Hammersmith tube station. On the northern side of Hammersmith Broadway there is a long wall with two sets of old blue gates and just past those, a small blue door and beyond that the frontage of a chapel with a stained glass window. This is all the school site. The small blue door leads into our main Reception. The talk will happen in the chapel on comfy seats and there will be refreshments afterwards and a chance to walk around afterwards to see our cloisters with 130m of cloister wall paintings, some panels of which have recently been restored, and the cloister garden, etc. Talk is just under an hour but event times reflect opportunity to explore afterwards.
