How do communities hold on to a sense of belonging when cities are damaged or destroyed by war? Cities at War: Power, Reconstruction and Urban Futures is a series of talks exploring how people carry connection, memory and civic identity through displacement and destruction — and what happens when reconstruction is shaped by political and economic forces that exclude those with the deepest claim to return and rebuild.

Featuring contributors from Conflict and Environment Observatory, Architects for Gaza, Forensic Architecture, Gaza Municipality, Chatham House, the London School of Economics and the Initiative on Greenhouse Gas Accounting of War, the series spans climate, reconstruction, spatial justice and urban futures.

The series opens on 2 June with War as a Climate Event, followed by Cultural Rebuilding: Memory, Identity and the Right to Return on 16 June, and The Business of War: Property, Capital and Reconstruction on 29 June.

Each event will be followed by informal networking, with drinks available and the opportunity to continue the conversation. More information about the full programme is available on the Building Centre website.
