Crossness Pumping Station, the Grade I-listed ‘Cathedral on the Marshes’, hosts an open day focused on the iconic site’s architecture and history, in collaboration with heritage architects Purcell and Bow Arts.
In line with the LFA theme of ‘Belonging’, our event will also celebrate the 100+ volunteers who make open days at Crossness possible, as well as delve into the history of the pumping station, acknowledging it as a feat of Victorian engineering, built and innately decorated for the benefit of all regardless of social standing.
Programme:
- ALL DAY: Entry to Crossness Pumping Station for a special London Festival of Architecture open day and access to the Great Stink Exhibition
- ALL DAY: RANG railway rides every 30 minutes in Vintage Routemaster shuttle bus
- ALL DAY: Displays and videos exploring the architecture, history and significance of the site
- ALL DAY: A celebration of the volunteers who make Crossness open days possible
- 11:40, 12:30, 13:20 and 14:10: Talks from Crossness volunteers and Purcell
