Opened in 1865 and said to be for first-class passengers visiting the Crystal Palace, the Subway’s remarkable Victorian structure has had many lives. This event explores how different communities shaped the subway’s story, and how we can feel a sense of belonging in this unique space.
Activities include:
Footprints of Our Station: Join local artist Hazel East to add memories of journeys to a collaborative artwork across the subway floor.
Share Your Memories: Crystal Palace Park Trust’s Young Advisory Group have explored archive material to uncover lesser-known stories about the subway.

The Subway is located inside the park beneath Crystal Palace Parade, close to the Boundaries Gate and the bus terminal.

There is no step-free access.
You must use two flights of stairs to get into the Subway.
There is a handrail on the stairs.
The floor inside is uneven.
The lighting changes from bright to dim in some places.
The subway can be cold.
The subway can have lots of echoes, and noises can sound louder in there.
