Fabric First: Hands-On Natural Retrofit Workshop
Hands-on retrofit workshop exploring natural materials, low-carbon construction and fabric-first strategies through practical making and community learning.
Wednesday 24th June
10:00 - 16:30
College and university students
A full-day hands-on workshop exploring natural materials in low-carbon retrofit through practical making, demonstrations and community learning.
Participants will work with timber framing, natural fibre insulation, lime plaster and airtightness systems through the construction of 1:1 retrofit wall and floor mock-ups. Alongside live making, the workshop will open up conversations about healthy homes, circular construction, climate resilience and how retrofit can strengthen people’s sense of belonging to their homes, neighbourhoods and existing buildings.
Delivered by Teresa Serrano and Marion Lloyd-Jones (University of East London and ACAN - Architects Climate Action Network), the event aims to make retrofit knowledge accessible while connecting residents, students and practitioners around sustainable housing futures.
"Retrofit is not only about performance. It is about care — for buildings, for materials, for communities, and for the everyday places we call home." - Teresa Serrano
