This walk will explore embodied histories of parakeets and humans through their 2000+ year entanglement, retracing the strands of history woven through St James’s Park. We’ll discuss the ways Parakeets have cultivated, and challenged, ideas of belonging. While not native to the UK, these bright green birds are thriving - despite legal and cultural hostility.
Wear good shoes and expect temperamental weather, but also prepare for strange flights of imagination between real and perceived visions of nature, navigating the wonderful, and traumatic, stories of parakeets. We'll ask how we move beyond outdated ideas of belonging, towards an ecology of inclusion.
