City Views introduces four sculptural wayfinding pieces across the ground level of key viewing platforms in the Eastern City, encouraging exploration at street level while connecting pedestrians to elevated views across the City. Delivered as the winning proposal of the ‘City Views’ open design competition, the project was led by Bamidele, Farouk & Livia (bafalw) in collaboration with Red Collective.

Built Project

Installed outside the Lookout at 8 Bishopsgate, Horizon 22, The Garden at 120 and Sky Garden, the wayfinding pieces draw formal inspiration from the surrounding skyline, acting as distinctive markers within the streetscape. Each piece pairs steel and stone, materials characteristic of the City’s architectural language, and incorporates a bespoke base that invites pause and engagement.

Hand-painted patterns and embedded text animate the vertical surfaces, integrating quotes from an accompanying audio installation and reflecting the layered stories of people, buildings and public spaces across the Eastern City BID. Engraved skyline baseplates further anchor each intervention within its immediate context.

Now forming part of the everyday pedestrian experience, the totems reimagine wayfinding as a spatial and narrative device, bridging ground and sky while enhancing legibility, identity and interaction within one of London’s most densely built environments.
